10 Years Of Pop Culture In The Philippines: Toycon 2011

It was 2002 when the group decide to come together to organize a gathering of about forty toy collectors whom would swap and sell collectible items from comic boob, trading cards, diecast Hotwheels and matchbox cars, action figures and even antique toys and memorabilia.


And so, the first Philippine Toy, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention starts in October of 2002 in SM Megatrade Hall. Today, after 10 years the small gathering has grown into a huge event which targeted 20,000 people each year filled with toys, games, hug displays of upcoming blockbuster movies,, exhibits of customized and premium high end collectibles and peoples in costumes.

On its 10th anniversary, TOYCON will celebrates as cosplay goes cinematic with the filming of Cosplay Nation the movie, produced by Yian Studios, Beijing and internationally distributed by the China Film Group Corp., the largest and most influencial state-run film enterprise in China. Celebrities like Linda Le, Cheng Yi and our very own Alodia Gosiengfiao will be featured in the movie which is the first leg of location shooting in the Philippines in this year Toycon.

Also, DC Comics and Warner Brothers Pictures will having an exhibit and activities to promote Green Lantern in his big screen debut and another movie highlights is the last installment of the Harry Potter movie series, harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 which will having a display or their original costumes and movie props from the previous movies.

Toycon will also be the host event for the Asia Cosplay Meet Philippines (ACMP) competition to be determining the best cosplayers from the country who will get a chance to travel in Singgapore for the Asia Cosplay Meet finals on June 25-27. Apart from the cosplay scene, there will be also a panel of discussion featuring with various artist and creators of comics and toy designing, guest artist from DC and Marvel Comics and much more!
