The matcha mania in the Philippines never stop. As we can
experience the launch of the first matcha-themed food festival at the Newport
Mall in Resorts World Manila. This whole month of September, Resorts World
Manila signature restaurants and selected Newport Mall, dining establishments
will give you a Matcha spin on classic recipes that will guarantee you to taste
and maximized the flavor of the healthiest forms of green tea called Matcha.
Matcha originates in Japan as a powdered green tea and
become popular around the world because of its complex flavors and detoxifying
health benefits that it can give. Matcha also use in other recipes from
desserts to savory rice meals. To meet the Filipino's matcha cravings, Newport
Mall is setting the stage for the Matcha Festival.
I was so excited when I got the invitation to try different
foods to matcha in their recipes. I am one of the guests who first tried the
sweet desserts and tasty food concoctions created by Impression, Ginzadon,
Prosperity Court, Cafe Maxims, and Franks as well as the matcha recipe from
Bulgogi Brothers, Mr. Kurosawa, Johnny Kahuku, TWG, Kettle, and many more.
I have tried the Matcha Overload by Impression, it has green
tea gelato, matcha cannele, kouignette with matcha and red bean macaron. Then
the Perfect Matcha, which is the combination of fluffy Green Tea Choco Almond
Croissant filled with dark chocolate and
almond flakes, and hot Green Tea Latte by Cafe Maxims.
Next is the Matchadog, who is an Asian twist of Frank Inasal
Sausage topped with matcha dressing, nori and more by Franks. Actually, this
Matchadog is my favorite and I never thought that matcha is can be used as a
dressing for a sausage sandwich would give you a true taste of goodness in
every bite you have.
I also tried the Matcha Crumbles by Prosperity Court and the
Guaca Matcha Sansrival by Johnny Kahuku, both taste good too. The Guaca Matcha
Sansrival is my second favorite during the food tasting and it was a layered
butter avocado cake with cashew merengue and japanese matcha frosting, although
it was kinda sweet but I think it can be a perfect match with coffee or hot
tea.
Actually, I arrived late, so I did not have the chance to
try the first part of food tasting that they served but it’s okay. Even if I
did try it all, I do enjoy the rest of the food at the Matcha Festival.
By the way, there is also a Matcha Art Exhibit at the ground
floor and the specialty market where you can buy matcha flavored goodies,
treats and other products available for purchase at the 2nd floor until
September 30.
