The leadership forum is convening international leaders from government, business, academia and science over two days in New York City to explore the deep, structural changes confronting the world’s systems, implications for the leadership of organizations and societies, and how information and technology are reshaping the modern world.
Since opening its first office in 1937, IBM has worked as an active member of the Philippines business community. Today’s meetings between President Aquino and IBM reinforced the Philippine government’s focus on using technology to improve the Philippine economy and government services,
During the meeting, President Aquino discussed IBM Smarter Planet initiatives with IBM Corporation Executives, led by Growth Markets General Manager Bruno Di Leo. Smarter Planet initiatives support government transformation to promote transparency and strengthen governance, as well as collaborative talent and skills development initiatives to empower Filipinos to harness new technologies and skills and continued growth of the company in the Philippines. Other IBM participants included Ambuj Goyal, General Manager for Development and Manufacturing, Systems and Technology Group, and Christopher Padilla, Vice President for Governmental Programs.
"The ideological paradigms of political leadership common in the last century cannot account for the complexities in today’s societies, and governments need to be nimble and adaptable enough in order to respond to challenges as they arise. The challenge is to approach different situations with a certain pragmatic idealism," said President Aquino. “The Philippines is rapidly becoming a major centre for employment and skills growth, business development and investment for IBM, said Bruno Di Leo, General Manager for IBM Growth Markets. “We are proud of our investment and partnership with industry and the government to use technology to improve citizen services and support economic development.”
IBM has also been working closely with the Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP) on the development of human resources for the IT-BPO. Last December 2010, President Aquino inaugurated three new IBM facilities located at the UP Ayala Technohub, Quezon City, for Business Process
Delivery of Human Resources, Finance & Administration, Customer Relations Management and Application Management Services operations. In 2011, IBM expanded its operations in a fourth facility in the Technohub. The ongoing
expansion is part of IBM’s commitment to extend existing investments in the country.
